Please label your submissions in the comment boxes below your Flickr photo on our page. If we could all use the same labels it will make our judging a bit easier so please use the following labels:
1. RED
2. DISLIKE
3. LARGEST
4. OLDEST
Please know that ALL prizes have been generously donated to our Stashbusting Sewalong 2015 group. It would be so nice if you popped over to their websites or fb pages and gave them a big thank you!
Well this is it. The official announcement for the Stashbusting Sewalong 2015 February theme. I am super excited to get February rolling and to be hosting this month!
The overall theme is….fabric! Yes, the very thing that brought us together in to our lovely group. This month you might have to do some digging though. We have four categories of fabric to sew and would love it if you sewed something up in all four! To help motivate you we have some great prizes for each category that you will be eligible to win if you meet the minimum guidelines and upload a photo of your finished project to our Flickr group. We will have three judges who will determine the winners the first week of March. The judges aren’t eligible for prizes in case your wondering. To be eligible for prizes a few rules must be adhered to: You may only enter one item in each category; Item has to be sewn or an old project completed in the month of February 2015; Item needs to be sewn primarily using existing stash, although if you have to purchase notions or a bit of something to finish that piece, that is okay; Item has to fit in one of the categories – you need to tell us how in the comments section of your Flickr entry; It can be any sewn (or handcrafted out of fiber, i.e. knitted, crocheted,) item such as a garment, home decor, gift, quilt, etc… All entries are due by midnight, EST, February 28th 2015. No late entries will be considered; Item photo must be uploaded to Flickr page to qualify for a prize. Easy right! Now on to the fun part; below are the categories and the prizes that will be awarded in each category. We will award one grand prize winner. They will receive one issue of a Marfy catalog AND a $100 gift certificate to Spandexbytheyard!! Oh.My.Gosh. I wish I could tell you how much I love the fabric I have purchased from Spandexbytheyard. I have made my son numerous competition swimsuits. I have found that no matter how good their fabric colors and graphics look online, they are AMAZING in person. The graphics on the fabric…incredible. Here are some fabrics I purchased recently to make more suits and some jammers. BTW, I am saving big bucks. A teeny tiny men’s speedo cost minimum $28 plus tax and they last about as long as a dusting of snow in Florida. Not suits from these bad boys…poly blend is the big difference. Spandexbytheyard.com has hundreds of different prints in spandex, spandex/poly blends and many other types of fabric. I warn you, they are addicting!!! In addition to the Grand Prize winner, we will award one winner in each fabric category as follows: Category 1 is Sew something red; well, yeah…it is the LOVE month. Sew something using your red or pink fabric. Prize: $15 Gift Certificate to Girl Charlee fabrics. Category 2: Sew something using the stash fabric you dislike most: There must be a fabric you really don’t like in your stash – use it up! Prize: Thread from Aurifil. Category 3: Sew something using your LARGEST piece over 4 yards: I guess I need to get busy sewing all those floor pillows I have been thinking about for years! Prize: One issue of a Marfy catalog. Category 4: Sew something using the piece you have had in your stash the longest. Have a piece your Mom or Grandmother gave you long ago? Or a piece from way back when you first began to sew? Whatever you’ve had the longest will do! Prize: Coats and Clark Thread Sample Package After the Grand Prize and 4 category winners have been picked, we will pick one winner from all remaining contestants for a Marfy catalog. Please visit all the prize sponsors and give them a huge thank you and “like” their pages so they know we appreciate their generous donations! They all have fb pages and here are the links; Spandexbytheyard, Girl Charlee, Make it Coats, Aurifil, and last but not least Marfy. I hope you are as excited as I am and good luck!

Judy, Judy, Judy, don’t you just enjoy people pretending to be Cary Grant….Any hoo, what a great month of sewing you have for all of us . Thank you for the much thought out plan. January has got me sewing up a storm, but everything has something to be finished and it will be. I also want to say thanks for asking me to join. Boy are there a bunch of talented people trying to bust their stashes. I can hardly wait to see what else will be made and photoed….

How should we Identify an Item for a Category? can we create 4 folders in the group for projects and we add them to the folder (is this a flikr feature?) Should we tag the photos with the 4 challenges? IDEA – you tag your submission with the challenge name (we will need to standardize the tags), and then add it to the photo stream for the group. I ask because I just realized that so far all my projects in the stream this month are some version of pink.
